Thinning Hair? PRP Therapy Could Be the Solution

Tired of hiding thinning spots on your scalp with hats, scarves, or headbands? While we at All About Me Medical Day Spa commend you for your innovative hairdos, we want you to know about something that could end your frustration.

It’s the secret to shiny, thick, luscious hair. It’s the end-all to hours spent in front of your mirror figuring out new ways to hide thinning hair. It’s an all-natural treatment that can re-instill confidence in your appearance. It’s called platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

What is PRP therapy?

PRP therapy is a simple three-step process during which we:

Platelet-rich plasma contains special factors, or proteins, from your blood. The platelets themselves have high concentrations of proteins called growth factors, which are known to kick-start your body’s healing processes and stimulate cellular repair. Growth factors also act as signaling, or communication, molecules between cells, which can help your cells do their jobs more efficiently.

How does PRP therapy work for hair growth?

When we inject the platelet-rich plasma into thinning or bald spots on your scalp, your hair follicles are stimulated. The growth factors in the platelet-rich solution essentially awaken your hair follicles, causing them to generate hair growth in dormant areas.

Usually, the first results you notice include decreased shedding (less hair on the brush or down the shower drain) and smaller bald or thinning spots. After a few treatments, you should notice that your hair looks much fuller and stronger.

For the best possible results, you should stay consistent with your treatments. Most of our patients get injections once a month for the first few months, and then every three to six months afterward.

Are you a good candidate for PRP therapy for hair growth?

Anyone with thinning hair or balding can benefit from PRP therapy. The treatments work best for patients with early hair loss, but if you’ve been thinning for a while, you can certainly still see results.

PRP therapy is especially effective if you have androgenic alopecia, a genetic condition that causes premature thinning and balding. If you have any medical conditions that cause hair loss, such as lupus or thyroid disease, talk to your provider first about whether PRP therapy for hair growth is right for you.
